Founded in 1967 in Milan, Italy by Pino Rabolini, the firm quickly established itself as one of Europe's leading jewelry houses by designing for the "Modern Woman". Designing pieces to be worn from day to night which have a contemporary Italian vibe, Pomellato's signature is pieces that feature lots of gold and translucent gems. The gold is rounded and tactile and the stones often irregular. The artisans at Pomellato are renowned for their exceptional goldsmithing - creating beautiful, innovative settings for stones and remarkable clasps.
From its' founding, the firm employed top fashion photographers like Gian Paolo Barbieri, Helmut Newton and Lord Snowdon to establish Pomellato as the jeweler to the fashion forward and style icons. Collections like Bahia, Capri and Nudo celebrate the rocky shores and translucent waters of the Mediterranean, contrasting stones with gleaming gold, smooth polished sufaces with rough and faceted "rocks".
Pomellato describes Chalcedony & Rock Crystal from the Capri collection as, "Reminiscent of the soothing movement of the sea, two-sided rocks play surprising games of light alternating clear and cloudy shades of color." Both Chalcedony and Rock Crystal where used in precious jewelry in Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance times.
