Provenance

Ex. Coll: Private Collection, Philadelphia, PA.

The artist captures the similarities and the individuality of the sitters in this pair of portraits. These siblings are an attractive pair; both have fair complexions, dark brown hair and blue eyes. Their fingers are long and refined and their clothing is understated and elegant.

The boy is seated outdoors in a landscape of fields, trees and distant mountains. He holds his wild rabbit gently - gazing down at it intently. This is a son of the land, a compassionate caretaker of the properties he will inherit. It is noteworthy that the boy chose to be painted with a wild rabbit. Most portraits of boys from this period depict them with their favorite dogs or horses.

This painting (and its' pair) retains the original frame.

*The two paintings are sold as a pair for $25,000.
